The Many Facets of Flavored Coffee

The origin of flavored coffee.
Coffee is not just a black beverage containing caffeine, antioxidants and other substances that are good for you.
It is a universe unto itself with family and lovers, friends and foes enjoying a cup of coffee in similar ways despite differences in race, religion, status and sex.

Of course, differences in coffee tastes must be accounted for and thus was born gourmet flavoured coffee.
Admittedly, coffee tastes great in and of itself but for that extra special taste sensation, flavors are added. Think of it as adding milk to coffee to produce latte albeit coffee flavors are added instead.

Flavors of Coffee

When it comes to flavors, there are as many flavor combinations for coffee as there are unique tastes for them.

After all, it will not do for a coffee lover to be limited to just one flavor day in and day out when the world of coffee is so rich with them.

Thus, coffee enthusiasts can choose from fruit-based flavors like mango, almond, vanilla hazelnut, Southern pecan, apricot cream, and even pumpkin, chocolate flavors such as chocolate truffles, black forest cake and chocolate raspberry cream, liqueur-based based flavors like Jamaican rum and cinnamon toddy, just to name a few.

Indeed, the universe of flavoured coffee is an explosion of tastes like you have never experienced it before!

You will ask where all these coffee flavors come from. Well, there are two basic sources - the natural and the synthetic.

Arguably, the best coffee will contain 100 percent flavorings from natural sources like cocoa beans, Southern pecan, vanilla beans, hazelnut and various berries and nuts.

Synthetic flavors are made from commercially-produced chemicals, which may or may not distort the great taste of the coffee base depending on how it is applied during the manufacturing process.

Process Used in Flavoring Coffee

The manufacturing process used in coming up with the varieties of flavored coffees achieves two purposes.

First, it supplements - many will say enhances on - the coffee beans' natural tastes with the flavors added.

Second, it prolongs the coffee products' shelf life by disguising the flavor changes brought by the processes of oxidation, decaffeination and aging.

There are only two raw materials used in the manufacture of flavored coffee - the coffee beans and the flavoring oils.
The coffee flavors are added after the roasting process to ensure that the two materials will bond permanently.

The ratio of coffee beans to flavoring oils differ amongst manufacturers although it is safe to say that the many add half an ounce of flavor to a pound of coffee beans.

The coffee beans used also depend on the manufacturer. Thus, consumers can choose from coffee made from beans grown in Sumatra, Kenya, Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica, to name a few countries.

It must be emphasized that Arabica beans are more commonly used than the Robusta beans since the former are milder but more flavorful than the latter.

Flavored coffee is a whole new world opened up to coffee lovers around the world.

Try every flavor you can possibly taste and choose one that suits your palate the best.

Better yet, drink a new flavor everyday and make your world a perkier place to live in.
