Zojirushi Coffee Maker Review

Reviewing the Zojirushi Coffee Maker.
Japanese companies are known for their world-class products especially in consumer electronics, of which the Zojirushi Corporation based in Osaka is no exception.
The company manufactures rice cookers, bread makers and insulated jugs, to name a few of their products, although this article is a Zojirushi coffee maker review.

Since there are plenty of coffeemakers in the Zojirushi product line, let's narrow it down to just two; the EC-BD15 and the EC-DAC50.

The EC-BD15 is a 10-cup thermal carafe coffee maker.
It has an electronic timer with preset function and automatic shut-off for safety combined with a brew-and-serve lid design as well as an easy-to-read water gauge.

The stainless steel filter is detachable, which makes for quick and easy clean up. Add in the dripless pause and serve feature and you have a Zojirushi coffee maker that may well be top of the line in its category.

Most consumers find that the EC-BD15 can keep coffee hot for hours without significant variations in smell and taste from freshly brewed coffee.

Thus, it makes for a great convenience for busy individuals who cannot be bothered with brewing a fresh batch of coffee every now and then. This is possible because once the brewing cycle is completed, the auto shut-off kicks in to keep the coffee quality while the carafe's lid also slows down the oxidation cycle.

On the minus side, the controls are placed most inconveniently - on the side - that takes plenty of getting used to. Storage may also present problems since it is a tall (15 inches) coffeemaker.

There is no small-batch setting with this Zojirushi coffee maker so it may not be suitable for a one-cup-a-day drinker.

All in all, the SC-BD15 is a good coffeemaker for families with avid coffee drinkers forever dashing through the door.

Also known as the Zutto coffee maker, the EC-DAC50 is a 5-cup drip coffeemaker with a detachable water reservoir and water filter cone. An automatic warm function kicks in after the coffeemaker finishes its drip cycle.

The advantages of the EC-DAC50 includes easy cleaning, thanks to its removable water filter and water tank, and its compact size (just a little over 10 inches) that makes for easy storage.

Or you can just keep it on the countertop for quick use, not to mention that this Zojirushi coffee maker is a beauty to look at. Its foremost benefit, however, is the good quality of the resultant coffee, if and when you can watch it.

This can be attributed to the cone-bottom filter that removes the water's unwanted flavor after it has been heated. Keep in mind that water quality affects coffee quality.

However, the EC-DAC50 is more expensive in comparison with other similar brands and models. Most consumers also complain about the lack of automatic shut-off, which often leads to burnt coffee, not to mention that the coffee comes out on the lukewarm side. Plus, even with the advertised 5-cup capacity, it is more like 4 cups.

In conclusion, between the EC-BD15 and the EC-DAC50, you are better off with the former. You will have more coffee capacity, a programmable timer and good coffee hours after brewing it.
